Inaugural address - Gina Wu

Good evening, my dear fellow members and our most welcomed guests, thanks for your coming to our joyful installation ceremony tonight! Toastmasters International was founded in Oct. 1924. It's been 85 years. Since its founding, Toastmasters International has empowered more than 4 million people to achieve their full potential and realize their dreams.

Our charter president, David Tsui, launched Shin Ying Toastmasters Club in Nov. 2006. It was a company club initially. As an in-side sales
representative, I joined my first Toastmasters meeting to evaluate if a shy
person was suitable to join a public club. As most of people in Taiwan, I
have learned English for many years, but I was ashamed of speaking English in public. With encouragement from charter members, I delivered my first speech with fear and unease. Now I have delivered more than 20 speeches in Toastmasters club. The more I join Toastmasters meetings, the more I benefit by Toastmasters manuals, trainings and website information. Don't limit yourself what level you are able to reach, let's get back to the basics, your sincere heart, doing well by doing good. Trust me, practice makes things better.

To be the president of Shin Ying Toastmaster Club is a challenge. It's
about pride, responsibility, membership and finance. What encourages me to take this job? Is the pressure from past presidents? No, no. It's you, all
of you. I cherish friendship between members and I really enjoy
Toastmasters meetings to have some "me time" between work and home.

My dear fellow members, seize any chance to grow ourselves bright and
joyfully. It's my honor to be the president of SYTC. I would like to take this chance to thank our immediate past president. As being an elegant and single lady, she really did a great job in our club in her term. She searched every proper venue and finally selected Xiang-ti coffee shop to be our routine meeting venue, air-conditioned, soft lighted, good smell from the kitchen and parking lot nearby. Furthermore, she was responsible to initiate teenager students speech contest "Shin Ying Cup" and got a great echo and response. My dear fellow members, please join me in giving a big applause to our IPP, Chin-chi, Lai.

Tonight, it is a historical moment for me to host the installation
ceremony. I am full of excitement to accept the challenge and pledge to
make my commitment toward the success of the club with the best of my
ability. We are always learning by doing from the new job assignments. We
are not alone as Toastmasters is a network hub, which is friendly accessed
by all individuals, that links to all member clubs.

All in all, it is a great responsibility for me to conduct the President
role of SYTC. I will integrate the functions of my officers and setup the
following specific goals to achieve.
- To invite at least 4 guest speeches from other Toastmasters clubs. Once a
quarter!
- To invite at least 30 guests to join our meeting, and one new member a
month!
- To boost the close relationship of Shin Ying TMC to retain 70% of
existing members.
- To hold Singing contest and outing in the late 2010.
- To hold "Shin Ying Cup" speech contest for teenager students in 2011.

To end of my speech, I would like to adapt ex-US President Kennedy's wisdom
words "Not ask what SYTC can do for you, ask what you can do for SYTC."
Looking forward to having your growing with us!
